Food and Body Issues
Eating is one of our most basic needs. Yet for many women and men, food has become a source of struggle rather than nourishment. People who experience difficulties with feeding themselves often have challenges trusting themselves and others. In my experience, a client’s troubled relationship with food reflects disruptions in other important areas in her life.
Some of my clients have a strong aversion to food and appetite; some have difficulty refraining from over-eating; and others swing back and forth across this continuum. In therapy, we will focus on your beliefs and behaviors involving food. We will also explore the underlying assumptions you have about yourself and your place in the world. When people don’t feel safe or good enough, it can be easier to bury their feelings with restrictive or compulsive eating rather than experiencing seemingly overwhelming pain, fear, and anger . Together, we will work on building stronger, more compassionate relationships in your life–both within yourself, and between you and others.
